Migrationmethods
Therearetwomethodsofmigratingasinglesearchappliancetoanother:
● Migratingsearchindexandconfigurations
● Migratingconfigurationsonly
Migratingsearchindexandconfigurations
GSAMirroringisafeatureprimarilyusedtoprovidehighavailabilityandhighcapacityserving,butitcan
alsobeusedformigratingconfigurationsandsearchindexesbetweenappliances.Infact,mirroringisthe
onlymeanstocompletelymigrateanindexfromoneGoogleSearchAppliancetoanother,andshouldbe
usedforGSAmigrationwheneverpossible.
Thismigrationmethodismostappropriatewhen:
● Reindexingofallcontenttakessignificanttime,duetolargeindexsizeorslowcrawlrates
● Nochangesareplannedtodeploymentarchitectureandcontentsourceintegration
● Featuresinthenewsoftwarereleaseonthenewappliance(s)donotrequirereindexingofcontent
(refertoversionreleasenotesforguidance)
Advantagesofthismigrationmethod:
● Savestimeincontentindexing(mirroringismuchfasterthanreindexingofcontent)
● Minimaluserimpactonexistingproductionsearchexperience,asthenewappliance’ssearchindex
willbeanexact“replica”oftheexistingappliance
Disadvantagesofthismigrationmethod:
● Procedureismorecomplicatedthanmigratingconfigurationonly
● Thecrawlcycleontheproductionsystemwillbetemporarilypausedandnewcontentwillnotbe
acquiredduringthemigrationprocess
Requirements
Formirroringtobeconfigured,bothsearchappliancesmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:
● TheymustbeonthesameGSAversion,andbeofv6.8orhigher
● Theymustbeofcompatiblesearchappliancemodels
● ThemasterGSAmustbelicensedforequalorlowerdocumentcountthanthereplicaGSA
