Therearetwomethodsofmigratingasinglesearchappliancetoanother:

Migratingsearchindexandconfigurations

GSAMirroringisafeatureprimarilyusedtoprovidehighavailabilityandhighcapacityserving,butitcan

alsobeusedformigratingconfigurationsandsearchindexesbetweenappliances.Infact,mirroringisthe

onlymeanstocompletelymigrateanindexfromoneGoogleSearchAppliancetoanother,andshouldbe

usedforGSAmigrationwheneverpossible.

Thismigrationmethodismostappropriatewhen:

● Reindexingofallcontenttakessignificanttime,duetolargeindexsizeorslowcrawlrates

● Nochangesareplannedtodeploymentarchitectureandcontentsourceintegration

● Featuresinthenewsoftwarereleaseonthenewappliance(s)donotrequirereindexingofcontent

(refertoversionreleasenotesforguidance)

Advantagesofthismigrationmethod:

● Savestimeincontentindexing(mirroringismuchfasterthanreindexingofcontent)

● Minimaluserimpactonexistingproductionsearchexperience,asthenewappliance’ssearchindex

willbeanexact“replica”oftheexistingappliance

Disadvantagesofthismigrationmethod:

● Procedureismorecomplicatedthanmigratingconfigurationonly

● Thecrawlcycleontheproductionsystemwillbetemporarilypausedandnewcontentwillnotbe

acquiredduringthemigrationprocess

Requirements

Formirroringtobeconfigured,bothsearchappliancesmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:

● TheymustbeonthesameGSAversion,andbeofv6.8orhigher

● Theymustbeofcompatiblesearchappliancemodels

● ThemasterGSAmustbelicensedforequalorlowerdocumentcountthanthereplicaGSA
