Here are some ideas and metrics you can use to assess if you’ve achieved
some of the most common goals related to switching to Google Apps.
If your primary goal is... Then....
A smooth transition
to Gmail and Google
Calendar
Review the number of support tickets filed with your help desk related to email:
• Track trends and compare this data to the number of tickets filed with the
legacy email system.
• If you’ve returned to roughly the same number of support tickets you had
with your l
egacy email system or less, you’ve most likely achieved your goal
of a smooth transition to Google Apps.
• If you have had an increase in the number of support tickets filed related
to email, consider reinforcing the train
ing and support resources available
to users and asking your Google Guides to continue formal
ly supported
their peers.
Improved productivity Consider sending a deployment happiness surve
y to your user community.
• Ask for their feedback on how much time they are spending on
commun
ication- or collaboration-related tasks.
• Repeat the survey again and track trends to identify areas where users
ar
e seeing productivity increases and where users might need more
p
roductivity tips.
Increased collaboration Use reports from the Google Apps control panel related to the number of active
users in your domain usin
g Google docs or Google sites. There are also many
third-party tools in the Google Apps Marketplace that track other metrics
related to Google docs and sites.
